Measurement of Gearbox Surface Frequency Response Functions for HUMS Algorithm Improvement
نویسندگان
چکیده
Vibration diagnostic algorithms used to identify incipient bearing faults are installed in Digital Source Collectors (DSC) on nearly 2000 US Army rotorcraft. These algorithms depend on the structural vibration characteristics of the bearings, gearboxes, and mounting brackets to transmit the signatures associated with bearing abnormalities and faults. Two distinct algorithm families exist to measure changes in these signatures: the broadband spectral energy family and the demodulation family. Each of these uses the unique vibration signatures associated with the natural frequencies and transfer paths of the monitored bearings. The Aviation Engineering Directorate has estimated the Frequency Response Function for each of the monitored bearings from 5 to 50 kHz using a piezo-exciter mounted directly to the gearboxes at the bearing load zones and measured by the appropriate DSC accelerometer. The testing for this effort was completed on six airframes: the Apache AH-64D, the Black Hawk UH-60L and MH60M, the Chinook MH-47G and CH-47D, and the Kiowa Warrior OH-58D. This paper details the threephase effort showing the entire process including the validity of the measurements and samples of the FRF estimates.

Case Studies: Use of Big Data for Condition Monitoring
This paper describes two case-studies that exercised a big data framework, data mining, machine learning (ML) algorithms, and predictive analytics to improve the accuracy of aircraft engine health monitoring and HUMS-based condition indicators’ (CI) ability to predict gearbox removals. In the first example machine learning algorithms operating on multiple data sources produce useful insights to...
متن کاملInvestigation on Fault Detection for Split Torque Gearbox Using Acoustic Emission and Vibration Signals
When compared with a traditional planetary gearbox, the split torque gearbox (STG) potentially offers lower weight, increased reliability, and improved efficiency. These benefits have driven the helicopter manufacturing community to develop products using the STG. However, this may pose a challenge for the current gear analysis methods used in Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS). Gear an...
متن کاملQuantification of condition indicator performance on a split torque gearbox
The requirement for higher energy density transmissions (lower weight) in helicopters has lead to the development of the Split Torque Gearbox (STG) to replace the traditionally planetary gearbox by the drive drain designer. This may pose a challenge for the current gear analysis methods used in Health and Monitoring Systems (HUMS). Gear analysis uses time synchronous averages to separates in fr...
متن کاملHelicopter Blade Stability Analysis Using Aeroelastic Frequency Response Functions
In the present paper, the aeroelastic stability of helicopter rotor blade is determined using Aeroelastic Frequency Response Function. The conventional methods of aeroelastic stability usually use an iterative procedure while the present method does not require such approach. Aeroelastic Frequency Response Functions are obtained by inverting dynamic stiffness matrix of the aeroelastic system. S...

The principle object of this paper is to offer a modified design of Rogowski coil based on its frequency response. The improvement of the integrator circuit for nullifying the phase difference between the waveforms of the measured-current and the corresponding terminal voltage is a further object of this investigation. This paper addresses an accurate, yet more efficient measuring and protect...
